IDEA
The idea stems from careful observation of the braking system's operating dynamics, especially the transformation of thermal energy during their use and the propagation of it in the components involved in the braking action. It has been observed that the increase in vehicle performance and the predisposition of the houses to reduce costs, and especially with the advent of sintered materials, in some braking systems the characteristics of performance balance that had last years have been lost since here the need to "invent" a device that has two functions: the first to limit the heat transfer of the pads to the braking system caliper and oil, and the second to cool the brake pad to avoid its use in critical temperatures.
These special "Ibride" plates have been made, consisting of 2 parts, one part in a special thermal steel and the other from a heatsink in light alloy made from solid material made of Teremal, a particular light alloy that has a strong capacity of heat exchange.
The project has seen over a year of tests and comparisons on the track up to the final version.
THE PROJECT
Our heatsinks have been designed using two different metal elements in order to optimize the thermal insulation of the pad from caliper and its cooling.
The main body of our heat sink is made of a special thermal steel with a high degree of heat conductivity. The material is first laser cut and then CNC machined in our work centers. The slits have the purpose of reducing the contact surface and also of letting out the hot air formed inside the cavity of the piston, reducing the effect of a hot chamber and the propagation of heat in the piston and also to the oil. A light alloy heat sink is connected to the main body of the steel heat sink, made with a special aluminum with high thermal conductivity, which has the task of helping the heat dissipation process.
Our tests have shown a reduction in the temperature of the pad up to a maximum of 20 degrees followed from an increase in braking, an incredible initial bite stable over time, an excellent Roll Back of the brake caliper pistons and a consequent reduction of the static braking force. In addition, the tablets have shown a life of 25% longer for a temperature less heavy to use.
The project required a development of over a year and during this period we used several motorcycles always obtaining the same result.
DEVELOPMENT
The development of the project lasted a year, we started with the choice of materials and their manufacturing process. We have tried different configurations and different processing of materials, we have used tools for data acquisition and special thermo chambers for viewing the propagation of heat from examining different points of the brake caliper and pad. We spent over 500 hours on the circuit and 20,000 km of road travel.
In total the product was tested on six different motorcycles and in different conditions of use.
We have therefore come to these configurations which in our opinion guarantee the exact compromise between efficiency, weight, cost and ease of installation.
